from 2015 to 2016

Happy New Year!

When my kiddos were younger, I remember thinking the days were long and the years were short. Now, I just feel like everything is short. Their curiosity, knowledge, ability, and growth is exceeding the number of hours in the day and 2015 went by...blink!

A friend just wrote something that I think is perfect. It was the sentiment that the year went by quickly because we were living life to its fullest. I love this and am going to hold that thought as we move into 2016.

Each year for the past 6, I have chosen a guiding word for the year.

2010 ~ Calm
2011 ~ Nourish
2012 ~ Hope
2013 ~ Renewal
2014 ~ Treasure
2015 ~ Joy
and this year, I am choosing two complimentary words; Laughter and Humor.

This year, I am hoping to return to my motto of creatively living lightly with less. Lightly has always meant less money, less environmental impact, but I also want it to me with a light-hearted joy. I am feeling inspired and more confident about what our family and homeschooling year can look like and that is worth celebrating.

At top; my husband made night table, loaded with photos and books. A friend gave me the 5 year journal, which I will begin today. I plan to write gratitudes, memories, and quotes.
Above; A beautiful tea cup I won in a 12 days of Christmas give-away from Brave Writer, a homeschooling resource I am finding so inspiring. And delicious dairy and gluten free sugar cookies made by my two kiddos. A rare sweet treat.

  1. Light-hearted joy! I'm right there with you, Nicola. My word of the year this year is Luminous, and I too want to wear it lightly. Happy New Year to you and your family!
